This assistance is given at the direction and discretion of the Service User (Leader), to ensure that they can engage in educational activities which further enhances independent living and facilitates the individual applying self-determination and control over their own life.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gcil.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/service-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>The role of the Educational Support Assistant is personalised to the requirements of the individual Service User and may include:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Attending lectures and assisting with note taking<\/li>\r\n<li>Assisting with projects<\/li>\r\n<li>Navigating around campus<\/li>\r\n<li>Personal care assistance e.g. lunches, hygiene<\/li>\r\n<li>Research assistance<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Galway Centre for Independent Living is the employer of the Educational Support Assistant, the Service User takes on the role of their day-to-day coordination of activities within agreed workdays. Galway Centre for Independent Living, in their role as employer, will ensure that:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>There is a robust, transparent recruitment process in which the Service User is involved<\/li>\r\n<li>All checks on the Personal Assistant are carried out i.e. references, Garda clearance<\/li>\r\n<li>All staff receive required training<\/li>\r\n<li>A full induction training programme is undertaken<\/li>\r\n<li>Employers PRSI, Insurance, Sick Pay and statutory Holiday Pay are covered<\/li>\r\n<li>Educational Support Assistants have ongoing supervision as part of regular Person Centred Plan reviews which identify any additional training and personal development requirements<\/li>\r\n<li>GCIL will liaise and work in partnership with the Disability Officer, where relevant, in the Service Users educational facility<\/li>\r\n<li>Educational Support Assistants services can be funded privately by the individual, or family member<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Education Support Funding may be available through Third Level Education Institutions.
